International Conferences

Since 1992, the Emily Dickinson International Society has sponsored international conferences every three or so years (in addition to our annual meetings). The first such conference was in Washington, D.C. at the Mayflower Hotel. In 1995, EDIS's international conference was held at the University of Innsbruck in Austria; in 1999, at Mt. Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, with excursions to Amherst and to the Houghton Library, Harvard University; in 2001 at the University of Trondheim in Norway; and in 2004 at Hilo, Hawaii ("Volcanoes be" in more than "Sicily").

Detailed descriptions of past conferences are given below. We hope that you’ll join us in Seville, Spain in 2022!
