Frost and Jones Library Exhibitions 2014

Special Collections, Frost Library, Amherst College

Participants should be aware that the Frost Library is closed on the weekend. Make plans to see the exhibit on Friday between 8am and 5pm. Those who come early or stay late can see it on Thursday or Monday, as they choose.

The exhibition will focus on Emily Dickinson and Amherst College and will include daguerreotypes and other portraits of students she may have known—including her brother Austin, George Gould, and Frazar Sterns—as well as student publications and Dickinson manuscripts on scraps of college-related documents. Also on view will be a robust selection of other Dickinson manuscripts and artifacts, notably the original of the 1859 daguerreotype that may or may not be another image of Dickinson. Placed on deposit by the anonymous donor about a year ago, it will be available for study in the reading room.

Special Collections, Jones Library, 43 Amity Street

The Jones Library Special Collections has rich holdings related to nineteenth century Amherst and will feature for the EDIS meeting an exhibition titled “Dickinson’s Amherst: A Glimpse into Her Nineteenth Century World.” Special Collections will have on view approximately 60 manuscripts and Amherst imprints that give insight into Dickinson’s world. The Jones is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 AM to 2PM and 3 PM to 5 PM and Saturday from 2 PM to 5 PM.
