The Frost Library “Emily Dickinson Collection”

Michael Kelly, Amherst College Special Collections

In the Fall of 2012 Amherst College launched Amherst College Digital Collections (ACDC) -- a new digital repository that draws heavily from the collections in the Amherst Archives & Special Collections. All 850 of the Emily Dickinson manuscripts held by Amherst College are now freely available via ACDC to anyone with an internet connection anywhere in the world. We continue to add new content as the Archives works closely with the Digital Programs division in Frost Library to identify, digitize, and describe collections for use online. Most recently we added images of manuscripts and artwork by Dickinson’s contemporaries and neighbors Edward and Orra White Hitchcock, part of our ongoing efforts to raise awareness of the history of science at Amherst College. Future additions will include Mabel Loomis Todd's transcriptions of Dickinson's poems and hundreds of Todd's letters; drafts of Millicent Todd Bingham's books on Dickinson; and a wealth of material from her family and friends, as well as major figures in the Amherst community during her lifetime.
